Common Name(s): This species is commonly called the Lilac-crowned Amazon.

Natural Range: From western Mexico from Durango and Sinaloa south to Oaxaco
Description: Length 13 inches. Green with lores and forehead dark red. Back or crown and the sides of nape are light blue. Iris orange. Beak Yellowish. Feet light gray.
Comments about (sub)species: Common in aviculture. Often mistaken for the Mexican Red-head Amazon. The easiest distinction between the two in the lilac- crown has a dark cere while the mexican red-headed has a light colored cere. I have been able to find very little on the pet quality of this Amazon. Please email me if you have information you would like to provide.
